LETTER: Town is not always trustworthy

In reading the July 8 Guest Soapbox by Elizabeth Karman on Yucca Mesa’s independence, it reminded me of a past incident.

Way back in the 1990s there was a movement going on to  incorporate a place called the “town” of Yucca Valley. If my memory serves me correctly, it took several tries (elections) before it became a reality. All this time, the northeast boundary line was down the middle of Buena Vista Drive. But when the incorporation election passed, the boundary line suddenly included our property on the north side of Buena Vista. Wonders never cease.

The people of Yucca Mesa are certainly entitled to maintain their rural atmosphere, without a “sphere of influence” (land grab) to make things worse than they already are.

Maybe the word “town” should be more clearly defined for us common folk.
