WHAT YOU'RE SAYING"

"I owned a house in Palmdale for 17 years, saw the overdelopment of my rural area, it's now ruined, my former street is a ghetto, in fact, my former house has now been empty for 3 years! I grew up in Orange Co, saw it laid to waste, utterly destroyed, by overdevelopment, the beautiful hills and arroyos where my sister and I used to ride our horses are plowed under, all the precious wild animals killed, now, from San Diego to Santa Barbara, is APOCALYPSE NOW. I haven't bought property here because I'm afraid that will happen here, I remember how it was 40 years ago, a great place to visit or live - why does the city council of YV want to turn the Mesa into another Fullerton or Fontana? Don't WE WHO LIVE HERE HAVE THE RIGHT TO A RURAL EXISTANCE, where we can actually hear the wings of the birds....I'm very sad to think this area might be destroyed by those who don't seem to realize this is a finite planet, with finite resources, and they are so quickly being destroyed, - MORE IS NOT BETTER!"

"I love the Mesa just as it is.... This is why I moved from San Diego and spent my lifes savings to build my dream home!  Peace & Quiet"

"This is war.  Losing will cost $25,000+."

"I wholeheartedly oppose the town annexing Yucca Mesa and ruining our rural lifestyle. The reason I moved to the Mesa is because I can have my horses and dogs and not be disturbed by anyone."

"When it snowed this winter my road was plowed the first day. My elderly mother was stuck in her yard in the town of Yucca Valley for 10 days and the road never got plowed. Our banks are plowed at least 2 times a year for flood controll. I do not want to loose this important service!"

"I moved my children here to live this great rural life, and we walk daily to enjoy the beauty and peace that is our life here. We do not want that taken away. If I wanted people and noise around me, that is where I would live-not here where it is 10 miles from town! We did that on purpose!!!!"

"There is just too much heat on the Town Council whenever they want to mass grade the desert, and uproot a thousand Joshua Trees for gated communities and subdivided projects. What is the Town Council to do?: Annex the Mesa and do all the mass grading out there. Kowtow to the developers. One or more members on the Town Council seem to have a huge conflict of interest (running a mortgage broker business vs. their obligation to the city). Shame on them. The annexation smell to high heaven with self-interest, with no advantages to the Mesa people, and huge benefits to developers. "

"It's all about money brought in with new taxation of Mesa residents . They want their hands deep into the pockets of poor, low income, seniors and everyone else. If the annexation occurs, they've 'got ya' -- there will be no turning back. Y.V. can't even service their own residents with a decent infrastructure. They'll gobble up the Mesa, take their money and provide no services at all. There is no benefits to Mesa residents and property owners. Clearly a one-sided deal."

This plan stinks to high heaven! God help the Mesa people. The Town Council will subdivide and allow track homes and gated projects. They will mass grade near your property without remorse. Bet on it. Fight it!"

A very bad plan for every Mesa individual and family. Once the Mesa is in the jurisdiction of the city, they will pick your pockets -- and eventually drove low marginally income people from their homes."

"My wife and I moved to the mesa from Desert Hot Springs. We've had enough of small town politics and mismanagment. We're here for the long haul and don't need want or need the light, air, water and people pollution that are indemnic of city life. We didn't come here to be engulfed by the "Super Walmart" mind set that seems to be pervasive in most small towns with big ideas. Once the ball starts to roll, it's not going to stop! These people with their big ideas about the mesa should head down to Palm Desert and Indio and see what happens when that ball starts to roll! No more clean air, open spaces or date farms. It starts with an amphitheatre and dog park and progresses to walled communities and golf courses. The Coachella Valley degeneration should be a lesson to those who look to change the current status of Yucca Mesa."

"I oppose this Annexation for many reasons, but I feel the most outrageous and unnecessary proposals are the Ampitheatre and Dog Park. Most of the people on the Mesa have large enough lots that a dog park would be absolutely useless and a waste of Taxpayers money. The Ampitheatre would cause excessive traffic and the potential for far more accidents than already exists on 247. 247 is a major link between the high deserts and trying to add a venue that would cause more traffic would be a major nuisance for the residents of the Mesa. Yucca Valley already has a nice stage at the park for the "Concerts in the Park" why not take the money and expand that rather than offering additional taxpayer expenses for something that is not necessary."

"We weren't "allowed" to vote on this when it was an issue, and now, the Town of Yucca Valley wants to "absorb" our area, which would cost all of us a lot of money, and without a vote from any of us, and without any consideration to any of us. Annexation is a really bad plan, which I totally disagree with."

"The reason I bought the property on La Cresecenta Dr. was due to the dirt road. I love it just the way it is now. I have no problems at all."

"Bigger is not always better. History has proven that more often than not, cities and towns are not any better off fiscally by incorporating more land/homes. It is unforunate that the Yucca Valley Town Council has fallen prey to a common, greedy way of thinking that has its wallet and purses at interest and NOT people. When will our country stop thinking this way and put people before money? I am a single income father and simply cannot and do not want to see any financial increases due to the coming water treatment plant, possible forcing of a natural gas pipe line expense, trash removal service, etc. We chose the Mesa for peace and quiet, horses, donkeys, chickens and numerous other benefits of rural living. Please leave us alone!"

"The SOI is all about the Town stealing our water!  They get the water and they will send it on down to the Town."

"This is outrageous. Yucca Valley monied interests have completely spoiled the beauty and rural nature of the town center. Now they want Yucca Mesa so they can continue exploiting and raping the land? When is enough enough? I am a voter and a landowner and I say NO NO NO."

"I would prefer that Yucca Mesa be part of Joshua Tree when it incorporates. It makes more sense."

"I personally do not believe that services will improve, even though costs will go up. I do not see any improvement in services or quality of life for Mesa residents should annexation take place."

"I wholeheartedly oppose the town annexing Yucca Mesa and ruining our rural lifestyle. The reason I moved to the Mesa is because I can have my horses and dogs and not be disturbed by anyone."

"If I wanted to live in an Incorporated area I would move or be living in a city, town etc.!!!!!!"

"the town cant take care of its own problems, roads parks anamal control.when the toun first formed, they(town Councel) promised to improve the roads, NOTHING has been done to impove the roads, only the roads that the town elects to improve. how can the town tell its employes that is broke, and then buy blue skyes cc."

"I left the great city of Chicago for many reasons: my health and my safety. ANY change of my climate or peace of mind should be offered us all at $1 million each to 'buy us off to move.' Because being left alone here where I can actually hear my Jackrabbits swallow the food I throw them is worth MORE than a million$ to me! IF I wanted to hear gang gunfire and sirens and see blinding lights 24/7 I would have stayed in Chicago where I used to be younger and could fight off muggers in the subway or pickpockets on the bus. I HATE gangs of any kind and moved here to get away from it, BUT if YV keeps increasing their population the gangs will be there soon enough! I do not want to, but I will kill a gang member if accosted by one. If someone hates Southerners, do they move to Alabama? No! If you hate the cold weather, do you move to Alaska? No again. And neo-nazis don't move to Israel either. So leave rural people alone when they DO find their rural spot or be prepared for class-action lawsuits when the town plans attempt to change into a city, that's my opinion."

"We are new to the Mesa, but the Mesa "area" is why we moved here!"

"Yucca Valley SOI over Yucca Mesa is wrong and should not be approved by the LAFCO commissioners."

"The town of Yucca Valley has shown itsef to be unable to handle their existing problems.  Such as poorly designed roads and intersections,I see terrible car accidents weekly on 29 Palm Hwy.  An abandoned car dealership which is an eyesore."

"Yucca Valley has done a terrible job of planning. Take a look at the brand new car dealership on the southeast corner of town. Now closed, it's presence represents the mindless destruction of our desert habitat. Though not in use it, remains lit at night, further destroying our ability to see the once star filled night sky, not to mention the waste of our precious natural resources. This kind of planning fiasco does nothing positive but line the pocket books of hit and run developers who do not have to live with the consequences. In the 5 short years that I have lived in the high desert, the pristine quality of the land and sky has been compromised. Throw in the fact that we are in a ten year drought in California. Yucca Mesa is potentially threatened with becoming a duplicate of the unsustainable growth and horrific destruction of our fragile desert lands from Indio, to Banning. In a mere ten years the low desert communities have managed to destroy their once pristine air quality and change the climate by the their rampant development. We in the high desert should not model ourselves on that example."

"All Yucca Valley has to do is get that Sphere of Influence to qualify them to take over the Hi-Desert Water District.  Mesans, you can kiss your water good-bye!  And say hello to high density houses, commercial, and industrial building everywhere by Luckino's buddies."

"IDIOTS!  The Town can't even pave the streets they have, so annexing the Mesa won't change that."

"To Yucca Valley, all Yucca Mesa is good for is extra taxes!"

"It's all about money brought in with new taxation of Mesa residents.  They want their hands deep into the pockets of poor, low income, seniors and everyone else.  If the annexation occurs, they've 'got ya' -- there will be no turning back.  Y.V, can't even service their own residents with a decent infrastructure.  They'll gobble up the Mesa, take their money and provide no services at all.  There is no benefits to Mesa residents and property owners.  Clearly a one-sided deal."

"This plan stinks to high heaven!  God help the Mesa people.  The Town Council will subdivide and allow track homes and gated projects.  They will mass grade near your property without remorse.  Bet on it.  Fight it!"

"A very bad plan for every Mesa individual and family.  Once the Mesa is in the jurisdiction of the city, they will pick your pockets -- and eventually drive low marginally income people from their homes."

"Good luck all you good people. We live in Yucca Valley & don't believe for a second that our town voted to incorporate but here we are. It stinks! When we relocated out here in 1978 it wasn't as small as Flamingo Heights but we were still pretty much a retirement town. We've had many good friends in Johnson Valley over the years. Sadly most are deceased but for you that are still left....FIGHT LIKE HELL to keep your area as it is. I don't believe it's the peoples vote that counts anymore. It's the money that backs the issue."

"We must put an end to this!!  I did not purchase my land to be in the city!!  All of us mind our own business, they need to do the same."

"We like the Mesa the way it is.  We don't want all their intrusive silly little laws."

"I currently live in Texas but plan to retire on our property on the Mesa. I was born and raised in Yucca Valley and have seen how the new government of City Counsel has changed what used to be a very small and wonderful little town to what people are calling the trash of San Bernardino County. Due to my Husbands employment we live in Texas but cannot wait to get back to my beautiful valley. It pains me so to see people who move out of the city and come into another community and want to make changes only because of their greed. I have seen it happen in Texas as well. City Counsel are irresponsible and over spend in an attempt for growth and the only way that they can get themselves out of hock is to annex more land for more taxes. People live in the country so that they do not have to adhere to the political nonsense that is so prevalent in today's society.  Please add our names to your petition if possible. We have land on the Mesa."

If Yucca Valley annexes us, they will raise taxes, force us to pay for their sewers, the people won't be able to pay the taxes, and then Yucca Valley takes the people's homes.  How fair is that?

"It is important to those of us downwind in the Basin that the spread of Yucca Valley be stopped. I personally, don't want that development ethos (unchecked, never met a development it didn't love) spreading eastward.  I will be writing letters and attending meetings when possible.  This is scary. I've always considered YV the liver of the Basin, filtering out the franchise toxins for the rest of us. It puts Joshua Tree at risk for YV style development, which would be a disaster for those of us who value the rural setting we are so blessed with.  This land grab is the first step toward urban sprawl, we need to make sure it doesn't happen."

"Now I know how the Indians felt when they saw the Cavalry coming over the mountain."
