Municipal Service Review and Sphere of Influence Amendment
(Update) for the Town of Yucca Valley
Dear Commissioner:
I oppose the Sphere of
Influence and Annexation of Yucca Mesa by Yucca Valley.
(In the body of the
letter, you may write from your heart or you may argue a particular
issue. The length of your statements is up to you.)
Sample Letter from "The Heart":
The Community of Yucca Mesa's lifestyle does
not fit with the Town of Yucca Valley. Yucca Mesa residents enjoy a rural
lifestyle, low density, slow growth, open space, large land parcels, dirt
roads, beautiful dark skies to observe the Milky Way, the keeping of horses
and farm animals, and most of all peace and quiet. If the Town of Yucca Valley
were to succeed with the Sphere of Influence and Annexation, all of those
amenities would change. Yucca Mesa as we know it will cease to exist.
I urge you to oppose the Sphere of
Influence.
Respectfully Submitted,
Your Name
Sample Topics for Letters on Issues:
The Town of Yucca Valley:
- is not sufficiently
experienced to handle the management of a municipal water district.
- has done a poor job in maintaining
the present roads in the Town.
- promised residents paved roads in
the last annexation and has to this date not delivered on their
promise.
- has carelessly planned and
over-built the Town resulting in a mandatory requirement to build a
$250 million water treatment plant.
- continues to plan for more building
such as an amphitheater, convention center, water park, and
elaborate community parks.
- continues to plan for a total
reconstruction of Town buildings and facilities without regard for
cost.
- simply amends their General Plan to
change zoning at will.
- does not have a transparent
government.
- shifts the burden for infrastructure costs from the developer to
the taxpayer.
- methodically surveys their residents relating to recreational
desires, but never surveyed Yucca Mesa residents about their desires
to be included in their Sphere of Influence or to be annexed into
the Town of Yucca Valley as encouraged by LAFCO to do so.
- encourages mass grading and stripping of vegetation for large
developments.
- is not financially solvent to provide services to Yucca Mesa.
