PRESS RELEASE
STOP YUCCA MESA
ANNEXATION COALITION ORGANIZED TO STOP TOWN
YUCCA MESA - December 29, 2008 - The Stop Yucca
Mesa Annexation Coalition is organized for one mission: To stop the Town of
Yucca Valley from annexing Yucca Mesa.
Over 1500 Mesa residents and supporters have
signed pre-emptive strike protest petitions to date. Over 99 percent of the Mesa
residents don’t want to be part of the Town of Yucca Valley. The other one
percent work for the Town of Yucca Valley or Hi-Desert Water District.
The Town’s reasons for the attempted take-over
are simple: money and land. The Town has over-built for their present
septic tank waste system, and the State is requiring them to build a Wastewater
Treatment Plant. The only problem is that neither the Town of Yucca Valley nor
the Hi-Desert Water District have the money to complete the entire job. Yucca
Mesa does not have a problem with sewage. The septic tank system works fine in
the low-density community.
Yucca Mesa residents are very angry with the Town’s
attempted take-over of their land and homes by annexation. Annexation would mean
a re-zoning of the entire community which could include commercial and
industrial, high density housing, rapid growth, light pollution, and the
elimination of the keeping of horses and farm animals. It is obvious the Town
wants to annex the Mesa to pay for their Wastewater Treatment Plant and to
develop Yucca Mesa’s land to their specifications which will line their
coffers with tax money.
"If I wanted to live in the Town, I would
have moved there," is a typical comment. "I moved to the Mesa because
I wanted to be left alone to raise my animals," is another common quote.
"This is clearly a land grab at our expense. Why should the Mesa folks pay
for Yucca Valley’s mistakes?" is another common theme.
The Stop Yucca Mesa Annexation Coalition hosts a
website for the public at:
www.StopYuccaMesaAnnexation.org
The website includes information
on protest procedures, the annexation process, Town Council meeting excerpts,
frequently asked questions, and caution about accepting Trojan Horses. There’s
also a page for volunteers to sign up for tasks. The Coalition can also be
reached at 760-219-7924
The Stop Yucca Mesa Annexation
Coalition is committed to stopping the land grab by the Town of Yucca Valley.
