Dear Coalition:
Bob and Elizabeth Karman, Co-Founders of the Stop Yucca Mesa Annexation Coalition, wish to extend a personal thanks to each and every member of the Coalition for the support and turnout of the Coalition for two important events.
Tuesday's turnout for the August 4th Council Meeting was super! We accomplished encouraging Chad Mayes placing the Town's application for the SOI/Annexation for withdrawal on the agenda. This issue will go on the Town's agenda soon. As soon as we know the date, we will contact you by the website, small signs under the big red signs, phone calls, and flyers.
Wednesday's turnout for the August 5th Hi-Desert Water District Board (HDWD) meeting was very much a surprise to HDWD. Their average attendance is 4 or 5 people.
Council Members Herbel and Huntington were in attendance. Mayor Luckino
put on his second hat as the HDWD Chief Financial Officer. The two items of interest to the Coalition were 1) Who is going to pay for the Wastewater Treatment Plant/Sewers and 2) Discontinuing the Videotaping of meetings. The outcomes for these items are: 1) A Nexus Study will be conducted to determine who will cover the costs of the wastewater treatment plant. 2) The videotaping of the meetings will continue.
Future HDWD Board meetings requiring Coalition assistance will be announced by e-mail, the website, signs under the big red signs, phone calls, and flyers also.
Even if we are successful in convincing the Town to withdraw it's Sphere of Influence/Annexation application to LAFCO, we still have a very rough road ahead of us. HDWD seems focused and intent on getting the Mesa residents to help pay for Yucca Valley's wastewater treatment plant/sewers.
The Coalition cannot let HDWD succeed with this unfair and unjust plan! The Mesa did not cause Yucca Valley's problems. Yucca Mesa does not have a nitrate problem and does not need a wastewater system. Yucca Mesa draws its water from the Ames Basin, while Yucca Valley draws its water from the Warren Basin. These are two distinct basins. Further, Yucca Mesa and Yucca Valley are geographically identified as separate by the Sawtooth Mountains.
In the meantime, stay tuned to the website: www.StopYuccaMesaAnnexation.org
This Coalition is a wonderful team! Yes!!!!
WE LOVE OUR MESA!
